If my best friend wasn’t from North Germany, I would honestly never have thought to go there on a holiday. No, certainly not when there are much more ‘exotic’ places just a short flight away: Italy, Spain, Greece… The countries you can leave with a guaranteed tan and well topped up Vitamin D levels that will both see you nicely through the coming winter. But last week I got on a plane to Dusseldorf to stay with Charlotte in a nearby city – and the minute I stepped in to the airport I was well and truly sold. Everything was just so clean (I had Leeds Bradford to compare to – if you have ever been there you will know exactly what I mean), so efficient and so damn beautiful.
Throughout the week we explored her local city of Hamm, took a short drive to the beautiful town of Soest, and also hopped on a train to Munster – which happens to be the twin town of my York! I was completely in love with everywhere we went – the food was divine and the buildings had me swooning down every street. I can’t tell you how much I recommend visiting Germany should you be on the lookout for a holiday that offers something a little different; chances are you’ll come back feeling refreshed, uplifted and full of the most delicious schnitzel to ever grace your mouth. What could be better?
All photos were taken on my iPhone as I was feeling particularly chill and the amount of shopping we did meant I didn’t quite have enough room in my bag for ‘the big camera’, so everything you see here was snapped spontaneously as we went along. A bit more like a picture diary of each day. I hope you enjoy!
